Korea’s representative girlgroup So Nyeo Shi Dae has finally started their Japanese promotional activities with a successful debut showcase.
The girls held their debut showcase in Japan on 25th August at 2pm in Tokyo Ariake Colosseum which saw about 7000 fans turning up.
Their debut single ‘Genie’ with both the Japanese and Korean version of their hit song ‘Tell Me Your Wish’ will be released following this debut showcase. The girls showed off each of their charms through the 30-minute live performances session.
They performed 5 of their hits included ‘Oh!’, ‘Run Devil Run’, ‘Into the new world’, ‘Gee’ etc. They had the strong support from their Japanese female fans. Since most girlgroups go for the cutesy image, the girl’ sexy and charming features are well received by fans in Japan.
A SM rep also voiced that the response from the fans for the showcase is positive and overwhelming. And the girls felt encouraged to see that most of their fans are female fans in their 10s and 20s. The girls’ record label Universal Nayuta Wave revealed that about 80% of the fans who attended the showcase are female fans.
Meanwhile, the girls will be heading to LA Staple Centre for SMTown Live ’10 World Tour in LA concert coming 4th September.

Netizens have chosen So Nyeo Shi Dae Jessica as the #1 female celebrity who will look prettier if she gain weight.
A poll was conducted on community site DCInside from 17th till 24th August on the question ‘The female star who will be prettier if she gain some weight’. And Jessica was voted up #1 on the surveywith 378 votes out of total of 1909 votes. Recently, Jessica even got herself the nickname of ‘Bin-sica’ after she was featured on a broadcast show for being able to squeeze her body into a trash bin.

So Nyeo Shi Dae is gaining great popularity in Japan.
Japan BigLobe Music released the results for a popularity poll on K-pop units on 17th August. During the 4 days the poll was conducted, 33,090 netizens took part. And ranked #1 on the poll is So Nyeo Shi Dae with 61.1% (20,212) of the votes. Following behind are WonderGirls with 29% (9598 votes), Super Junior with 5.2% (1717 votes), SHINee with 2.9% (944) and BEAST with 1.3% (417 votes) of the votes.
Biglobe Music said, “So Nyeo Shi Dae has earned the popularity amongst the young females in their 10s~20s. They get good reviews for their song, dance and fashion style.”

Hankyung has thought of suicide in SM
Super Junior HanKyung talks about the reason to why he got into a legal disagreement with his agency SM Entertainment, “It was because I was put through great stress and I even wanted to commit suicide.”

There is an 59% increased in sales as compared to the sale period last year and 385% increase in profits as compared to the sam e period last year for the girls.

‘Hallyu Dream Concert’ to take place on 12th September
The Hallyu Dream Concert hosted by Korea Entertainment Producer Association, ‘Visit Korea’ Committee and GyeongJoo; and sponsored by Ministry of Culture will take place on 12th September in GyeongJoo Citizen Stadium at 6pm.
This concert is planned in line with the 2010~2012 Visit Korea project which is a large scale cultural event for those in Korea and overseas to enjoy the drama, fashion and music which are the main elements to the Hallyu wave.
The performing artistes for this concert are confirmed to be Super Junior, 2PM, KangTa, 2AM, 2NE1, SE7en, 4Minute, BEAST, Son DamBi, KARA, After School, miss A, FT Island, Supernova, Davichi, T-ara, MBLAQ, Ukiss, ZE:A, Secret, Flower, Seo InKook etc. There are a total of 22 performing teams (102 singers). And already, there has been growing interests from audiences in Korea and overseas.
The concert will be part of the 3-day Hallyu Dream Festival with many various drama, fashion and music related events planned up. Kim Dong Ryul compliments BoA
Known as Korea’s national singer-songwriter, Kim Dong Ryul greatly complimented BoA’s singing skills.
The songwriter recently composed, produced, and directed one of the songs in BoA’s new 6th album called Person Next To Me. Kim Dong Ryul. who is famous for not giving out songs to singers, revealed, “I received an invitation from SM requesting me to write a song, and I thought the work would be fun so I agreed.” Regarding BoA, the famous composer complimented, “BoA sang in such a precise way to the point where you did not have to re-record the song due to beat or melody errors.”

Onew, Jay, Dana and Sunday casted for ‘Rock Of Age’ musical
SHINee Onew, TRAX Jay, Cheon Sang JiHee Sunday and Dana are known to be casted in a muscial together.
The 4 are known to be casted for juke box musical ‘Rock Of age’ which uses 80s representative rock music in the background of California Sunset Strip. Onew and Jay will play the male main lead Drew who dreams to be a rock star while Dana and Sunday will play Sheryl who dreams to be an actress in the musical.
Of the 4, Onew and Dana have had experiences acting in musicals. The musical will start showing from 15th September till 30th October in Seoul WooriFinance Art Centre.

Group Super Junior’s Shindong “I’ve gone on a blind date with gag woman Shin Bong Sun before” he surprisingly confessed.
Shindong was a guest on (August) 5th broadcast of KBS 2TV ‘Happy Together-Season 3′ (short form ‘Happy Together’). He says “I have a special relation with Shin Bong Sun” as he shares the behind-story about the blind date.
Shindong (beginning of debut) on a radio program where he was a guest was asked what his ideal type is so he said that he likes someone who is small in height and also cute. That’s what happened but the program’s writer said to Shindong “There is a friend of mine named Shin Bong Sun, if it’s okay with you, I can introduce you to her”.
Shindong “At that time Shin Bong Sun had debuted. When I was free, as soon as I answered the phone I ran without stopping to the radio booth” as soon as he said that Yoo Jae Suk, Park Myung Soo ect made all the MCs burst into laughter.
And Shindong said “That day Shin Bong Sun gave and received phone numbers, during that time we frequently talked on phone” and “If things went well Shin Bong Sun could’ve been my girlfriend right now”.
The MCs who listened to Shindong’s words said “If you two got married, you would’ve had a very healthy child” to this the recording set because a laughing sea*.

SHINee Key does a dance cover of miss A’s debut song ‘Bad Girl Good Girl’.
Key was on MBC ‘ShinDong Park GyuRi’s ShimShimTaPa’ aired on 4th August when he was seen dancing to miss A’s recent hit. He had promised to do the dance cover on the show and he carried out his promise in the end.

Super Junior Lee Teuk shows his support for BoA’s comeback.
Lee Teuk wrote on his Twitter on 4th August and shows his support for BoA who is having her singing comeback after 5 years in Korea. He wrote, “Surpassing as Asia’s Star, World’s Star BoA is back. Everyone please show your love and support.”
The 2 are known to be close friends as they are from the same agency. Lee Teuk also wrote, “BoA ya, the songs to this album is good after all..ㅋ I will promote it~ Of course I can promote it. Working hard to become close, right now it’s really awkward.”
BoA then replied him, “When will the song be played on radio.. Thank you for promoting the album.” It is known that Lee Teuk was DJ-ing at that time on a KBS radio show.
Meanwhile, BoA released her 6th album ‘Hurricane Venus’ on 5th August and she will have her comeback stage on 6th August.

Sone's big 3rd year anniversary celebration
Fans of girlgroup So Nyeo Shi Dae put up a large scale advertisement with a congratulatory message in Seoul KangBook KangNam to commemorate the group’s 3rd year debut anniversary.
Fans have put up congratulatory messages and videos on KwangHwaMun Korea Building and NonHyunDong Metro Building up to 100 times for the whole day for 5th August.
The advertisement uses images from the group’s ‘Run Devil Run’ promotions. And the message in the advertisement goes, “Surpassing Korea and advancing into the world market, congratulations to So Nyeo Shi Dae on their 3rd year debut anniversary. S♡NE will forever root for So Nyeo Shi Dae.”
So Nyeo Shi Dae fandom is known for putting up advertisements, be it on buses, billboards or internet, when it comes to occasions like members’ birthdays or debut anniversaries.
Advertising agency Ad Y commented, “At first when we received the proposal from the fans to put up the ad, we were shocked. But being a SNSD fan personally, and furthermore they are Korea’s representative girlgroup bringing in profitability, so we went ahead with the advertisement execution.”

SHINee’s new songs deemed inappropriate for broadcast by MBC
Singers Se7en and SHINee’s new songs have been deemed as inappropriate for broadcast by MBC.
MBC evaluation department has announced that Se7en ‘Money Can’t Buy Me Love’ and SHINee ‘Love Still Goes On’ are inappropriate for broadcast.
The reason for doing so is because in Se7en’s ‘Money Can’t Buy Me Love’, brand names like ‘Prada’, ‘Guess’ and ‘Gucci’ were mentioned. Same goes for SHINee ‘Love Goes On’ where ‘Facebook’ was mentioned in the song. The evaluation department consider this as indirect marketing for the brands.
It is known that the 2 singers will be editing the songs and resubmitting it for reevaluation by MBC.
Similar case happened for Big Bang TOP ‘Turn It Up’ where the brand names ‘Louis Vuitton’ and ‘Dolce’ were mentioned in the song.

BoA to lead in a Hollywood movie!
BoA will be transforming as an actress through appearing in an upcoming major Hollywood movie.
The movie is set in New York and is a dance movie directed by Duane Adler, who also did movies like ‘Step Up’ and ‘Save The Last Dance’. It is known that while he was writing the movie scenario, Duane Adler had already written with BoA in mind as one of the cast to the movie.

ShinDong is jealous of Nich Khun
Super Junior ShinDong talks about an episode where he had been jealous of 2PM Nich Khun.
He had said during his appearance on KBS 2TV Happy Birthday aired on 2nd August, “My girlfriend said she like Nich Khun. I didn’t know what kind of response I should give when she said that.”
He added, “But even if I’m jealous, there is nothing I can do,” he continued to show his jealousy throughout the show which had caused laughter in the filming studio.

The boys won #1 on KBS Music Bank just 1 week into their comeback with the title song ‘Lucifer’, and now the album is also up #1 for the 2nd week on album sales chart. The album, released on 19th July, is up #1 for the 2nd week on Hanteo weekly album sale chart for the week of 26th July~1st August.

Idols are ‘supermen’ and ‘superwomen’? They want to rest too…
From drama, variety, movies, radio to public performances, the opportunities that idols see these days have increased. It has become an age where idols have to explore other areas and not just stay in one to show off their charms. And these idols will need to spend their energy in the various areas they are exploring into.
The phrase ‘one source multi use’ is just the right one to use on idols. Even though they debuted as singers, they don’t show just the features of a singer. If the stage is not ‘wide’ enough for one, one move on to look at drama, movie, theatre and musicals etc, to show more of one’s charms and talents one cannot show in just the short duration of 3 minutes on stage. In the midst of achieving that, these idols will need the strength of that of an ‘iron man’. Even though this is a chance for the singers to up their rich and fame, without the energy to do so is also useless.
Of the idols, Super Junior has many unique group activities - Super Junior K.R.Y, Super Junior T, Super Junior M, Super Junior Happy. Members Choi SiWon is also exploring into other areas like drama and movie.
Another example is girlgroup So Nyeo Shi Dae with the members doing various other solo activities, they also had unique group ‘Room mate’ consisting of members Jessica, Tiffany and SeoHyun. Member YoonA is also seen doing various drama appearances, showing various features through those appearances.
Group KARA member Goo Hara, who joined the group later, is enjoying increasing popularity through her appearance on KBS Invincible Youth previously. And GyuRi is also showing a different charming side of her through her DJ activities on MBC radio ‘ShinDong GyuRi‘s ShimShimTaPa’. SHINee member Onew has also recently taken up the challenge of musical acting.
This is one of the strategies that agencies adopt for their idols. Idols showing various charms is one of the ways to money and wealth creation for the agencies. But under the directing of their agencies, the energy of these idols will obviously run out one day. Even though we cannot say that all idols promote in such manner, but there are a considerable number of them promoting under such strategies by their agencies.
But if these idols are to take a moment to rest, they will quickly be forgotten by the masses. A music critic commented, “Nowadays, we call the way the singers promote without much rest as ‘lightning attack’. Not even talking about 1 year, even if they are to rest for a few months, they will be forgotten quickly. And to maintain their popularity, these people have to show themselves constantly on TV in various forms. Also, because of that, singers also don’t release full length album but minialbums more often as they will mean using up lesser time and costs.”
In order to keep up to speed of changing tastes of the masses and media, and as contracted under agencies, these idols are only moving in the directions told to them.

Ahead of that, BoA will be releasing her comeback 6th album on 5th August. And on the 2nd, she will be revealing the title song ‘Hurricane Venus’ at 10am on various music sites like Melon, Bugs, Soribada, Dosirak.
The title song ‘Hurricane Venus’ talks about the image of woman in strong love like that of a hurricane, and it features some impressive chorus, powerful sounds and sexy grooves and beats.
BoA has especially gave the song the title of ‘Hurricane Venus’ personally. Will this signal BoA’s hurricane-like comeback to the Kpop scene?
There has been much interests for this long awaited comeback, but at the same time, many have their eyes on the upcoming showdown between BoA and Se7en’s comeback after 3 years with the title song ‘Better Together’.
